A young face is a symbol, an idea, an expression of renewal. I want renewal.
To me, generational change isn’t “against old people” — I have great affection for Bernie Sanders, I think Elizabeth Warren is fantastic, and yeah, both of them are somewhat older. But I also see, now, the outsized impact of the ceremonial arts. A president is a symbol for the country. A country in a sorry state, whose old ways are a long way from working, can either shamble forward in its agedness, or be entirely renewed. Drag out the old era into absurdity, or win a new one.
